Nach einer Einführung in die Entwicklung der Schrift und in ihren Zusammenhang mit Bild(ern) wird in einem zweiten Teil anhand von Originaldokumenten aus der Badischen Landesbibliothek erprobt, wie man historische Schriften liest und wie dies in der praktischen Kulturarbeit nutzbar gemacht werden kann.

This introduction to palaeography starts with a short overview of the history of writing and the link between letter and image. We will then try to read different older handwritten scripts by studying original documents from the Baden State Library, and discuss how and where such skills might be useful in practical cultural work today.
