Die Arbeiten von Dr. Barbara Filser verbinden bild- und medienkulturwissenschaftliche Ansätze. Ihre Interessensgebiete sind Fotografie, Film, Video- und Medienkunst. Zu ihren Forschungsschwerpunkten, die sich auch in der Lehre am Karlsruher Institut für Technologie niedergeschlagen haben, zählen die Anfänge der künstlerischen Arbeit mit dem elektronischen Bild und die Körperlichkeit des Bewegtbildes. Von April 2023 - März 2026 bearbeitete sie auf einer Eigenen Stelle im Rahmen des DFG-SPP „Das digitale Bild“ das Projekt „CD-ROM-Kunst: Bilder des digitalen Imaginären“.

Dr. Barbara Filser’s academic work combines approaches from art historical Image Theory and Media Studies. Her fields of interest are photography, film, video and media art. Among her main areas of research, which have also translated into her teaching at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, are the early artistic examinations of the electronic image and the corporeality of the moving image. From April 2023 to March 2026 she held a three-year temporary position as principal investigator of the research project “CD-ROM Art: Exploring Images of the Digital Imaginary” funded by the German Research Foundation within the framework of the Priority Programme „The Digital Image“.
