Currently, Dr. Barbara Filser is conducting research into CD-ROM art funded by the German Research Foundation with a three-year temporary position as principal investigator within the framework Priority Programme „The Digital Image“. Additional fields of research encompass the histories and theories of photographic, cinematographic, and electronic images, particularly activist and artistic videomaking of the late 1960s and early 1970s, documentary, essay and artists’ film, as well as the historiography of photography as art. Other areas of interest include exhibition history and artists’ archives. Her research and teaching converge in research-led seminars exploring the holdings on early video as well as the history of the photogram in the collections and archives housed at the Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe.
