Vita
Dr. Elena Markus (b. Kossovskaja) studied architecture at the UdK Berlin University of the Arts. Between 2011 and 2014, Elena was a curator at the S AM Swiss Architecture Museum in Basel; since 2014, she has been teaching architecture theory at the TUM Technical University of Munich. Elena organized seminars and workshops on the subject of "theory of Siedlung" between 2016 and 2018 and curated exhibitions at the 5th Architecture Biennale in Moscow as well as in the Lothringer13 art hall in Munich. As a guest lecturer, she taught at the the David Azrieli School of Architecture, Tel Aviv University in 2017. In her PhD entitled (Dirty) Realism. Analogue Architecture 1983-1987, she investigated the social and political significance of an alternative architecture production with regard to the dirty realism discourse in the art and architecture of the 1980s.
